Warendorf's copper small change of the 1574 issue belongs to a period when the city exercised municipal minting rights under the authority of the Prince-Bishopric of Münster. Local civic coinages of this denomination were primarily intended to fill the chronic shortage of low-value exchange currency that imperial and territorial mints consistently underprovided. The MB#9 reference places this among a documented but small series of Warendorf municipal issues.
Copper Pfennig-range pieces from Westphalian towns of this period circulated hard and rarely survived in collectible condition.
