| 背面描述 | The central field bears the date 1652 above the Roman numeral VI denoting the sixpence denomination, all within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding peripheral legend NEW ENGLAND A. DOM: 1652 VI encircles the design in large, unevenly spaced Latin characters. As with the obverse, the flan is irregular and the strike uneven, consistent with the hand-hammered production of this earliest series of American colonial coinage. The date 1652 was used as a frozen authorization date throughout the entire production period of 1653 to 1660, as minting was conducted under the original legislative authority granted in that year. |
