Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of James II facing left, rendered in bold relief with long flowing hair falling to the shoulder in the Baroque style characteristic of late Stuart portraiture. The king is depicted without armour, the truncation showing a simple drapery. The surrounding legend reads IACOBVS·II·DEI·GRATIA, disposed evenly around the periphery of the field. A beaded border encircles the entire design.
