| 正面描述 | Within a beaded inner circle, a medieval sailing vessel faces left, depicted in profile with masts, rigging, and hull rendered in fine detail above a stylized waterline. The legend NEWPORT ISLE OF WIGHT arcs around the upper periphery within the flat field between the beaded circle and the reeded rim. The date 1811 appears in the lower exergual area below the vessel, flanked by the beaded border. |

The Union Token series issued from Newport in 1811 belongs to the last significant wave of British provincial silver tokens, driven by a chronic shortage of regal silver coinage that the Bank of England had failed to address for decades. Parliament's eventual response — the Great Recoinage of 1816 — rendered these pieces obsolete almost immediately, which is why so many survive in relatively unworn condition. Newport's issues are among the better-documented Isle of Wight tokens, catalogued consistently across both Dalton and Davis without significant attribution disputes.
