Obverse description Left-facing crowned effigy of King George VI, wearing the Imperial State Crown rendered in fine detail. The portrait, engraved by Percy Metcalfe, is unadorned and bare-necked, presented in high relief against a flat field. The designer's initials 'PM' appear discretely below the truncation of the neck. The circular legend reads GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR, disposed around the periphery, bounded by a fine beaded border.
