Obverse description Left-facing crowned effigy of King George V, depicted in military uniform with decorations visible at the truncation, engraved by Edgar Bertram MacKennal. The King wears the Imperial State Crown rendered in fine detail above his bearded portrait. A continuous Latin legend encircles the effigy close to the toothed border, reading GEORGIVS V REX IMPERATOR. The field is plain and unadorned, with a beaded inner border framing the entire composition.

Reverse description Central device features a naturalistic Protea bloom — the national flower of South Africa — with broad leaves rising from the base, set against a symmetrical arrangement of six fasces-like bundles of rods disposed around the field, designed by George Kruger Gray. The denomination 6D appears in the lower exergue, flanked by two small floral ornaments. The bilingual legend SOUTH AFRICA and SUID-AFRIKA arcs around the upper periphery, separated by the date, with the engraver's monogram KG visible in the lower central field. A toothed border frames the entire reverse composition.
