6 Pence - Elizabeth I 7th issue

The 7th issue sixpence belongs to the final coinage of Elizabeth I's reign, struck at a moment when the crown was financially strained by prolonged war in Ireland and repeated Spanish hostilities. By 1601, the mint had also been dealing with the fallout from years of earlier base-money debasement under Edward VI — a shadow that lingered over public confidence in silver coinage long after fineness had been restored.

The issue ran only two years before Elizabeth's death in March 1603. Short production windows of this kind typically mean lower die output, and the 7th issue sixpence is noticeably scarcer than earlier Elizabeth sixpences in surviving collections.
