| Obverse description | Draped bust of Queen Elizabeth I facing left, crowned with an ornate Tudor crown, hair elaborately dressed and falling to the shoulder. A Tudor rose appears in the field behind the head, serving as a denomination mark. The effigy is rendered in the smaller-bust style characteristic of the 3rd and 4th issues. The legend is contained between an inner beaded circle and an outer beaded border. |

| Reverse description | A square-topped shield bearing the quartered arms of England and France is superimposed upon a long cross pattée, whose limbs extend to the inner beaded circle and divide the peripheral legend into four sections. The regnal date appears in two parts, separated by the shield, above the horizontal arms of the cross. A mint mark appears at the top of the cross above the legend. The reverse is enclosed between an inner beaded circle and an outer beaded border. |
