The portrait is unadorned and uncrowned, consistent with the proposed but never officially issued coinage for his reign. | Descrizione del rovescio | The central device depicts a crowned lion passant guardant standing atop an ornate Imperial crown, a design adapted from the English shilling reverse type. Flanking the central device are two shield-shaped panels bearing royal cyphers. The date 19·37 is divided to either side of the lion's body in the mid-field. A border of raised beads frames the design, with the abbreviated legend FID·DEF IND·IMP arching across the upper field. The denomination SIXPENCE is inscribed in large capital letters along the lower exergue. |

Edward VIII abdicated in December 1936 before any coins bearing his effigy entered circulation, leaving the Royal Mint with approved designs and no monarch to issue them.
