Opmerkingen

The British Military Authority currency was produced for use by Allied forces following the liberation of territories from Axis control — these notes circulated in Italy, the Middle East, and parts of Northwest Europe depending on theater of operations. The BMA series was deliberately designed to be exchangeable at fixed rates with local currencies while being legally distinct from sterling, a mechanism intended to limit black market pressure on the pound itself.

The sixpence is the lowest denomination of the BMA series and consequently saw the heaviest day-to-day handling among troops. Corner wear and heavy fold lines are endemic to surviving examples.
