Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing bust effigy of Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Independence Leader and first Prime Minister of Malawi (1898–1997), rendered in high relief with finely detailed facial features and attire. The engraver's initials 'P.V.' appear in the field, attributing the portrait to sculptor Paul Vincze. The legend 'MALAWI' arcs along the upper periphery, framing the portrait within a plain field.

Aanvullende informatie

Malawi's first coinage was issued following independence from Britain in July 1964, and this sixpence was struck while the country was still navigating its transition from Nyasaland — a name abandoned along with the colonial currency it shared with Rhodesia and Zambia. The Reserve Bank of Malawi was itself newly established, and these coins effectively announced the existence of a sovereign monetary institution where none had existed before.

Production ran only through 1967, when decimalization replaced the pound-based system entirely.
