| 备注 |
The Herzoglich Braunschweigische Sparkasse issued this note during the final year of the First World War, when Germany's central banking system was under severe strain and local savings institutions were deputized to fill the gap left by hoarded coins and scarce Reichsbank notes. The "Herzogliche" title is an anachronism worth noting: the Duchy of Brunswick had been absorbed into the German Empire in 1871, yet the savings bank retained its ducal designation well into the Weimar period purely by institutional inertia.
The 6 Mark denomination is unusual. Most emergency issues of this period clustered around 1, 2, and 5 Mark to mirror familiar coin values — a 6 Mark note suggests a specific local calculation of circulating need rather than convention.
