Additional information

Simon Henry ruled Lippe for only four years before his death in 1672 — the same year this coin was struck. The county's small size and limited mint output during his reign make issues attributable specifically to his final year scarcer than the broader Lippe series might suggest. KM#85 sits in a period when the Mariengroschen denomination was the workhorse of northwest German petty commerce, its value pegged to the Mariengroschen standard that had dominated regional trade since the late sixteenth century.
