Aanvullende informatie

George Louis was Elector of Hanover in 1708–09, five years before the British Act of Settlement brought him to London as George I. This 6 Mariengroschen issue circulated within the Calenberg administrative district at a moment when Hanoverian finances were under pressure from the War of the Spanish Succession — Brunswick-Lüneburg had committed troops to the Grand Alliance, and military expenditure was straining the smaller regional mints.

The Mariengroschen denomination, rooted in the silver groschen traditions of the Harz region, remained stubbornly local even as larger territorial coinages pushed toward standardization.
