| Obverse description | Bearded male head facing right, rendered in high relief with vigorous Hellenistic craftsmanship; the subject wears a Macedonian-style kausia or laureate headgear, with long flowing locks and a full beard rendered in fine wavy detail. The strong, mature physiognomy may represent Zeus or possibly a Macedonian royal in heroic guise. The flan is slightly irregular, typical of late Syracusan hammered silver coinage of the Fifth Democracy period. |
