Obverse description Bare-headed, draped bust of Elector Maximilian III Joseph facing right, rendered in high relief with flowing, elaborately curled wig in the Baroque court fashion. The portrait is boldly modeled, with fine detail in the periwig locks cascading to the truncation. The circular legend reads MAX · IOS · H · I · B · C · & · (Maximilian Joseph, by the Grace of God, Duke of Upper and Lower Bavaria, Count Palatine, etc.), separated by mullets, running around the periphery. A beaded inner border frames the design, and a mint mark appears at the lower truncation.
