Bavaria's 6 Kreuzer in billon was already an anachronism by 1866 — the German states were deep into monetary consolidation under the Vereinsmünze agreements, and small silver-debased fractional coins of this type were being phased out across the confederation. This particular issue spans only two years precisely because the North German Confederation's formation following Prussia's defeat of Austria in 1866 accelerated the collapse of the old south German monetary arrangements. Bavaria joined the new system under duress, and production of pre-unification fractional coinage ceased accordingly.
