Leopold I's six kreuzer issues of this period were struck against the backdrop of Ottoman military pressure on Hungary — Budapest itself remained under Ottoman control until 1686, meaning these coins circulated in a kingdom that existed, for practical purposes, only in its western and northern fringe territories. The Habsburg mints at Körmöcbánya (Kremnica) bore an extraordinary burden supplying coinage to a truncated realm.
The ÉH#1078 attribution places this firmly within Unger's Hungarian corpus, a reference that collectors of Habsburg Hungary still treat as authoritative despite its age.
