Frederick VII Magnus ruled Baden-Durlach from 1677 until his death in 1709, navigating the margraviate through some of its most destructive decades — French forces under Turenne and later Villars repeatedly ravaged the upper Rhine territories, with Durlach itself burned in 1689 during the Nine Years' War.
