Frederick I proclaimed himself King of Württemberg on January 1, 1806 — just days before the Confederation of the Rhine formalized the territory's elevation from duchy to kingdom under Napoleonic sponsorship. This coin was struck in the first year of that new royal status, making early-dated examples direct products of the political reorganization Napoleon imposed on the German states. Württemberg's monetary system was simultaneously being overhauled, and the billon kreuzers of this period reflect a transitional minting infrastructure still adapting to royal rather than ducal authority.
