Obverse description Armoured half-length effigy of Archduke Ferdinand II of Habsburg facing right, holding a sceptre in his right hand and a sword in his left, enclosed within a plain inner circle interrupted at the top by his crown. The harness on his torso is rendered with diagonal line engraving. The circumscriptional legend in Latin runs around the periphery.

Reverse description A bold cross divides the reverse field into four quadrants, each containing a heraldic shield: ancient Burgundy in the upper left, Castile in the upper right, Tyrol in the lower right, and Austria in the lower left, arranged clockwise from the top. A slight inner circle frames the composition, and the cross itself interrupts and divides the circumscriptional Latin legend into four segments around the periphery.
