Additional information

Ferdinand I inherited Styria as part of the Inner Austrian lands in 1521, but his early reign was consumed by Ottoman pressure — Suleiman's forces reached the outskirts of Vienna in 1529, and the financial strain of maintaining frontier defenses drove repeated adjustments to subsidiary silver coinage. The Graz mint was the principal striking facility for Inner Austria throughout this period, and the 6 Kreuzer denomination served the everyday transactional needs of a region perpetually mobilizing men and materiel.

The Markl range spanning twelve catalog numbers across a decade reflects genuine die variation rather than collector splitting — Ferdinand's mints were not operating under tight centralized control in these years.
