Additional information

1622 places this coin squarely in the opening years of the Thirty Years' War, when Augsburg — still functioning as an independent imperial city — faced severe monetary pressure from the broader Kipper und Wipperzeit crisis, a continent-wide debasement spiral in which mints across the German states raced to produce underweight, debased small silver to exploit exchange rate differentials. Augsburg, despite its civic pride and commercial reputation, was not immune.

The KM#11.2 designation distinguishes this from the closely related 11.1 variety, the differences lying in die details documented by Forster's work on Augsburg municipal coinage.
