The legend REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA arcs along the left and upper periphery, while the denomination 6 EURO appears vertically along the right rim, both inscriptions in raised Latin lettering within the beaded border. |

Croatia's adoption of the euro in January 2023 opened an unusual window: the Croatian National Bank could now issue euro-denominated collector coins, something impossible under the kuna. Petrović, who died in a car accident in Germany in June 1993 at age 28, was already being mourned as arguably the best European basketball player of his generation — his final NBA season with the New Jersey Nets had seen him average 22.3 points per game.
The six-euro face value is a nod to his jersey number, worn both with the Nets and the Croatian national team.
