Obverse description A stylized sculptural face, rendered in the manner of an ancient stone relief, occupies the center of the field, evoking the spirit of the 1973 Athens Polytechnic student uprising. Below and to the left, the Greek state coat of arms — a cross on a shield surrounded by a laurel wreath — is depicted with the legend ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ (Hellenic Republic) inscribed around it. To the lower right, a colored carnation in red and green serves as a commemorative symbol of the uprising. The curved legend 50 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΗΝ ΕΞΕΓΕΡΣΗ ΤΟΥ ΠΟΛΥΤΕΧΝΕΙΟΥ (50 Years from the Polytechnic Uprising) arcs around the upper periphery of the coin.
