Obverse description Draped and armored bust of Johann Georg I, Elector of Saxony, facing three-quarters to the right, clad in the electoral mantle and breastplate, holding the electoral sword upright in his right hand. The effigy is rendered with considerable portraiture detail, including a trimmed beard and moustache, and is contained within a beaded inner circle. A lengthy commemorative legend in Latin occupies the broad outer border, recording the Elector's birth date of 5 March 1585 and death date of 7 October 1656 in Roman and Arabic numerals, with the date M·DC·LVI appearing prominently in the field to the right of the bust.
