Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Frederick Augustus I (Augustus the Strong) facing right, with long flowing curled hair in the Baroque style, armour visible at the truncation with decorative relief work. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail. The encircling Latin legend reads AUGUSTUS D · G · REX ET ELECTOR, divided by the portrait, identifying the ruler as King and Elector by the grace of God. The field is bordered by a milled edge rim.
