Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg held the unusual distinction of simultaneously serving as Archbishop-Elector of both Mainz and Trier — a concentration of ecclesiastical and electoral power that made him one of the most politically significant figures in the Holy Roman Empire during the 1720s and early 1730s.
