Obverse description Three-quarter bust of Karl Kaspar von der Leyen, Archbishop-Elector of Trier, facing right, depicted in elaborate ecclesiastical and courtly attire with a richly detailed lace collar and ornate embroidered vestments. The effigy is rendered in high relief with finely engraved flowing hair characteristic of mid-17th century Baroque portraiture. A beaded inner border frames the portrait, with the Latin legend surrounding the bust within the outer field.

Reverse description Elaborately ornamented quartered coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Trier surmounted by a princely electoral crown, the shield adorned with decorative Baroque cartouche scrollwork and flanking foliage. The central escutcheon bears the arms of the von der Leyen family, including a prancing horse. The entire composition is rendered in bold high relief, occupying the majority of the coin's field. The Latin motto legend encircles the design, with the date 1659 and mint-master initials I.C.B. incorporated into the inscription.
