Obverse description A rampant lion facing left occupies the central field, supporting the oval arms of Zürich — displaying the city's characteristic diagonal bicolor shield — with its right forepaw raised and holding an upright sword. A small oval mintmaster's mark appears beneath the lion. The circumferential Latin legend reads MONETA REIPUBLICAE TIGURINAE, disposed around the periphery within a milled border, the inscription partially inverted at the base following the coin's circular layout.
