Obverse description Central device consisting of three ornate heraldic shields arranged in a trefoil composition, the uppermost and largest bearing the Imperial double-headed eagle of the Holy Roman Empire, flanked below by two smaller cartouches displaying the civic arms of Nuremberg. The shields are joined by elaborate Baroque scrollwork and drapery, with the engraver's initials G·F·N· inscribed in the central field between the lower shields. The peripheral legend MONETA / AVREA REIP / NORIMB. runs around the coin within a beaded border, interrupted by the decorative arrangement of the arms.
