Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan's final years were consumed by the collapse of Ilkhanid central authority — the realm fracturing under tribal pressure and succession disputes that would, within two years of this coin's production, leave the dynasty without a surviving legitimate heir. The 6-dirham denomination itself reflects ongoing monetary experimentation in the late Ilkhanate, as authorities struggled to maintain a functioning silver currency against chronic debasement pressure throughout the 1320s and 1330s.

Abu Sa'id died in 1335 with no male heir, ending the Chinggisid line in Persia. This piece was struck in the shadow of that dynastic extinction.
