| Obverse description | Crowned quartered shield of arms, bearing the two-fold heraldic device of the Fieschi lords of Masserano, surmounted by a princely crown. The shield is centrally positioned in the field, with the surrounding circular legend reading CARV IMPER GRATIA, in Latin script. The engraving is characteristic of late sixteenth-century Italian hammered coinage, with bold but irregular die-cut lettering. |
