Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Faustin I facing right, wearing imperial regalia with epaulettes visible at the truncation. The effigy is rendered in moderate relief with fine detailing on the laurel wreath and military dress. A circular legend surrounds the portrait reading FAUSTIN Ier EMPEREUR D'HAITI, arranged along the entire periphery of the coin. The field is smooth and unadorned, with the bust centrally positioned. The overall style reflects French medallic engraving conventions of the mid-nineteenth century.
