Obverse description	Multicolour intaglio and offset print in dominant violet tones over a complex multicolour guilloche underprint; a front-facing portrait vignette of author Higuchi Natsu (pen name Higuchi Ichiyō) occupies the right portion of the face, with arabic denomination numerals at upper-left and upper-right, the denomination in kanji at left-centre, and the Bank of Japan governor's seal at lower-left. Security elements include a kinegram hologram at lower-left cycling through the numeral "5000", the Bank of Japan emblem within sakura blossoms, and "NIPPON" text; a centre window with EURion constellation rosettes flanking it; a latent image reading "5000" visible at a low viewing angle below the window; tactile intaglio octagons at both lower corners; and microtext reading "NIPPONGINKO" repeated in multiple register lines along the frame edges and within the background ornaments. Left and right edge bands are printed with colour-shifting ink that fluoresces pink at oblique angles, and the serial number follows the format of one or two Latin alphabets, a six-digit numeral sequence, and a terminal Latin letter.
