Obverse description The obverse features the stylized floral emblem of the Republic of Korea at centre, depicting the taeguk symbol within a hibiscus blossom, enclosed by a curved ribbon bearing the Korean legend 대한민국 (Republic of Korea). Flanking the central emblem are finely detailed sprays of rose of Sharon (mugunghwa) blossoms in high relief. Below the emblem, the denomination 5.000 원 WON is inscribed in both Korean and Latin characters, with the issuer legend 한국은행 (Bank of Korea) prominently displayed along the lower field. The dual date 4303 - 1970, representing both the Korean Dangun era year and the Gregorian year, appears along the upper rim.
