Slovenia's declaration of independence on June 25, 1991 was followed immediately by the Ten-Day War, as Yugoslav federal forces moved to reassert control over border crossings and the Ljubljana airport. This coin was issued the same year, before the Tolar itself had fully replaced the Yugoslav dinar in circulation — the Bank of Slovenia was minting commemoratives for a currency still being born.
