5000 Tolarjev Jurij Vega

Jurij Vega, born in 1754 near Zagorje, was an Austrian artillery officer whose logarithmic tables — published in 1783 — remained in active use by navigators and engineers for over a century. The 2004 issue marks the 250th anniversary of his birth. Slovenia had been issuing collector silver in the tolar series since independence in 1991, and Vega was among the more internationally recognizable Slovene figures selected for the program before the tolar was retired upon euro adoption in 2007.
