Issued to mark the 400th anniversary of the Battle of Sisak (1593), where a combined Habsburg, Croatian, and Slovenian force halted the Ottoman advance into central Europe — one of the few decisive Christian victories of the long border wars. The battle effectively ended serious Ottoman ambitions north of the Sava River.
This was among the earliest gold commemoratives struck by the Bank of Slovenia following independence in 1991, when the tolar itself was barely two years old.
