Reverse description The reverse depicts a detailed bird's-eye view of the fortified town and fortress of Sisak (Sisek), rendered in fine relief, commemorating the 1593 Battle of Sisak in which Croatian and Carniolan forces defeated the Ottoman army. A heraldic shield bearing the arms of Carniola appears in the upper right of the field. The curved Latin legend 'CARNIOLAE VICTORIA SISEK' runs along the upper periphery, with the date '1593' inscribed below the arms. The name 'Andrej g. Turjaški' (Andrej of Auersperg), the commander of the Christian forces, is inscribed in a curved legend along the lower field.

Additional information

Issued to mark the 400th anniversary of the Battle of Sisak (1593), where a combined Habsburg, Croatian, and Slovenian force halted the Ottoman advance into central Europe — one of the few decisive Christian victories of the long border wars. The battle effectively ended serious Ottoman ambitions north of the Sava River.

This was among the earliest gold commemoratives struck by the Bank of Slovenia following independence in 1991, when the tolar itself was barely two years old.
