Mongolia's 5000 Tögrög denomination has been the workhorse of higher-value everyday transactions since the series was substantially revised in the 2000s. The 2024 date places this among the most recent issues, though paper rather than polymer substrate is an unusual choice given the global trend toward polymer for high-denomination notes — Mongolia had experimented with polymer on commemorative issues but returned to cotton-rag paper for the circulating series.
Giesecke+Devrient's Leipzig facility has printed Mongolian banknotes across multiple series. The watermark remains the primary listed security feature, modest by current international standards for a note at this value level.
