| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by a vignette of the Baiterek monument in Astana, the iconic steel lattice observation tower rendered in fine intaglio detail at centre-right, with the State Emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the national flag incorporated into the design. A facsimile palm-print with the signature of President Nursultan Nazarbaev — as housed within the Baiterek tower — appears as a central design element, accompanied by a fragment of the musical score of the Kazakh National Anthem. Guilloche underprint patterns and the denomination numeral 5000 frame the composition. |

Issued to mark fifteen years since Kazakhstan introduced the tenge in November 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble at a rate of 500 rubles to one tenge — a necessary severance from a collapsing monetary union rather than a gradual transition. The tenge had been prepared in secrecy with Giesecke & Devrient well before the official announcement, giving Kazakhstan a functioning currency ready to deploy within days of the decision becoming public.
G&D's Leipzig facility handled both the standard circulation series and this commemorative issue, maintaining continuity across the denomination's print history.
