Reverse description The reverse depicts three fully rigged caravel sailing ships — representing Columbus's fleet of the Santa María, Niña, and Pinta — navigating stylized ocean waves in the central field. Above the ships, a radiant sunburst emerges from behind clouds on the left, with seabirds in flight across the upper field. The dates 1492 and 1992 appear stacked to the right of the sunburst, commemorating the quincentennial of Columbus's first voyage to the Americas. The curved legend ENCUENTRO DE DOS MUNDOS arcs prominently across the upper border, and the denomination 5000 SUCRES is inscribed along the lower border. The design is executed in a bold relief style against a mirror-polished proof field.
