Additional information

Ecuador's entry in the Ibero-American series was issued ahead of the 1992 quincentennial commemorations marking Columbus's 1492 voyage — a politically charged anniversary that drew sharp criticism across Latin America, where many governments and indigenous groups rejected the word "celebration" entirely in favor of "encounter" or "remembrance." Ecuador was among the nations that participated in the joint minting program despite that domestic tension.

The series was coordinated by the Casa de la Moneda de España and involved twelve issuing nations producing coins to a shared silver specification, allowing cross-border collector sets.
