| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Uganda occupies the central field, featuring a shield decorated with a sun and waves, flanked by a Uganda kob (antelope) rampant to the left and a grey crowned crane rampant to the right, both serving as supporters, with crossed spears behind the shield and a scroll bearing the national motto at the base. The date '20 02' is divided and positioned to the left and right of the shield. The legend 'BANK OF UGANDA' arcs along the upper rim, while '5000 SHILLINGS' is inscribed along the lower rim. |

| Additional information |
Uganda's 5000 Shillings series of wildlife coins was produced during a period when the country's economy was still stabilizing under Museveni's government following decades of civil conflict and the catastrophic mismanagement of the Amin and Obote years. These issues were minted primarily for the collector export market — legal tender in name, but never intended to circulate domestically.
The .850 silver fineness is an unusual alloy choice for a modern commemorative, falling between the more common .925 and .999 standards. Whether this reflects a cost-driven specification from the contracting mint or a deliberate design decision is not documented in the KM listing.
