Beschrijving voorzijde	At left, the national arms of Uganda superimposed over an outline map of the country, with the motto ribbon inscribed FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY at the base; at lower right, a smaller arms vignette within a hexagonal cartouche. The centre is dominated by a large guilloche rosette incorporating the numeral 5000, with two facsimile signatures of the Governor and Deputy Governor below, dated 1986. Denomination numerals appear in each corner, and a serial number is printed twice in red at upper right and lower left.

Beschrijving keerzijde	Central vignette showing the main administrative building of Makerere University, Kampala, with its distinctive square clock tower at right and a large mature tree in the foreground, rendered in fine intaglio line work. The composition is framed by two large oval guilloche borders on either side, each incorporating a decorative diamond-pattern band, with a circular rosette medallion at upper left. Denomination numerals in bold appear in all four corners, and a decorative panel at the bottom carries the bilingual denomination inscription flanked by stylised antelope supporters.
