5000 - Rupees Specimen Travellers Cheque SYNDICATE BANK

Syndicate Bank — founded in 1925 in Udupi by T.M.A. Pai as the Canara Industrial and Banking Syndicate — was among the fourteen banks nationalized by the Indian government in 1969. Travellers cheques issued under its own name were a retail product aimed squarely at the domestic pilgrimage and tourism circuit, where branch networks mattered more than international clearing arrangements. The 5000 rupee denomination placed this firmly in the upper tier of the product range.

Specimen cheques of this type were produced for internal distribution and staff training, not redemption. The "SPECIMEN" overprint or perforation cancellation rendered them void, though they occasionally escaped into philatelic channels.
