| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse vignette presents a panoramic composition of the northern shoreline of Malé, the capital city, blending human figures, palm trees, urban structures, and traditional boats in a unified tableau that traces the nation's growth and development across five decades of independence. The design employs a richly layered underprint with geometric and floral guilloche patterns typical of De La Rue production. The overall composition serves as a visual narrative of socioeconomic progress, framed by inscriptions in both Latin and Thaana scripts. |

| Opmerkingen |
Issued to mark fifty years of Maldivian independence from British protection, which formally ended in 1965, this is among the highest-denomination commemorative polymer notes ever released by the Maldives Monetary Authority. De La Rue's Safeguard substrate was still a relatively recent adoption for the MMA at this point — the country had been a late convert to polymer, and the 5000 Rufiyaa denomination was not part of regular circulation stock.
The note was intended primarily for presentation and collection rather than everyday use. At issuance, 5000 Rufiyaa represented a significant sum for the local economy, making genuine till circulation essentially implausible.
