| 裏面の説明 | The state emblem of the Khmer Republic is centrally displayed, featuring a depiction of Angkor Wat framed within a wreath of olive branches and surmounted by a five-pointed star with radiating rays; a scroll bearing Khmer script inscriptions is draped across the lower portion of the emblem, above a sunburst medallion. Flanking the emblem are two sprigs of foliage. Below the emblem, the denomination 5.000 RIELS appears in Latin numerals and script, with the value repeated in Khmer numerals as ៥.០០០ រ, followed by the date in both Khmer and Latin script reading ១៩៧៤ · 1974. The Khmer Republic existed for only five years, from 1970 to 1975, bookended by Lon Nol's US-backed coup against Sihanouk and the Khmer Rouge capture of Phnom Penh. This 1974 issue was struck just months before the regime collapsed entirely — by early 1975 the National Bank itself had ceased to function, and the Khmer Rouge would famously abolish money altogether upon taking power.
Coins of the Khmer Republic were largely produced for collectors rather than circulation, as the country was engulfed in civil war throughout the period. KM#60 was struck at the Monnaie de Paris.
