Obverse description Bare-headed portrait of Queen Maria II facing left, her hair elaborately braided and gathered into a chignon at the nape of the neck, engraved in high relief with fine neoclassical detail characteristic of William Wyon's work. The effigy is rendered with delicate facial features and a graceful neckline, occupying the central field. The circular legend reads MARIA·II·PORTUG:ET·ALGARB:REGINA, separated by raised dots, running along the inner border of the beaded rim. The date 1836 appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by two small dots.
